REBELS WITH A CAUSE HEAD OUR WAY

If you still needed convincing this year’s Shute Shield is the tightest on record, that moment arrived last Saturday.

Competition leaders Hunter Wildfires were at home against last-placed Southern Districts, with bookies inviting punters to name their own price on a Rebels win.

But in one of the upsets of the year, Souths knocked over the locals and head to Manly Oval on Saturday full of confidence.

“We have been playing well this year but just been a little inconsistent in some areas,” Souths coach Jayson Brewer told Fillets.

“The competition is againย shaping up as a close one and the win over Hunter was on the back of plenty of solid work we have been putting in.

“We go in against Manly as massive underdogs but look forward to the challenge.”

Asked what impresses him most about the Marlins, Brewer said: “They have talent across the park, shift the ball well and have a good kickingย game.ย

“The backrow is well balanced, they have a strong midfield and some talented outside backs, hence why they sit third on the ladder.

“Any away game is tough, with vocal crowds and home fans all playing a role in the tribalismย of the Shute Shield.

“We had a good win last weekend on the road so the challenge this week will be to back that up.”

Manly is proud of its undefeated home record and will be up to the challenge.
