So, tell us about your playing career – you started as a Manly Roo, right?
Yes, I started at Manly Roos in the U6s, then when I went to St. Joseph college I played their 3rd grade in year 12 whilst at the same time coming back to play for the Marlins Colts. I progressed to Grade after 4 years in Colts, and I haven’t missed a season at the Marlins since.
How has your preseason been progressing – are you where you want to be?
Pre-season has been great so far. There has been a little morning crew including Kotoni, Jack Brisby, Ben Rubio, Tim Donlan and myself that have really pushing ourselves in the gym and doing a lot of extra running sessions too over the hot summer we have just had, which has been great. So I’m feeling in the best condition that I have in a few years and I’m ready to go.
What are your personal goals for the season?
1) lead by example 2) increase my 1st grade minutes from last year 3) win the grand final
Outside of the derby, what fixture are you looking forward to most and why? Or which team do you look forward to playing and why?
I love playing the big team like Uni, Eastwood, Norths & Randwick so really looking forward to playing them and showing them that last year was a one-off and take our place back at the top as one of the best clubs in the comp.
Biggest rugby moment/achievement so far?
The 2nd Grade Grand final is a massive stand out for me, looking around the field and playing and winning the premiership with some of my best mates - boys that I have been playing rugby with since juniors, that was pretty special. But I also can’t go past playing in the 2015 1st Grade Grand Final, even though we didn’t come away with the trophy it was a special day and a massive personal achievement - to be in that position - wearing the famous Manly No.7 Jersey in the GF.
What are your plans as the club captain?
I am really excited about the opportunity to be Club Captain of the Marlins this year, it is a great opportunity and honour. This year I have surrounded myself with and outstanding group of boys to help me and the club achieve what we are setting out to. Key areas that we are focusing on are Player Game Day Experience, PR, Building Player Profiles and Club Culture. It should all be a lot of fun.
Best attribute as a player? Or worst?
My worst habit would have to be that I am worryingly superstitious
What’s your day job and how do you balance the two?
I work in Media in the city for the UK Publisher Daily Mail. The balance and be tough but the key is just getting into routine which I feel a good portion of the city boys have down pat now.
Which team mate would be voted off Big Brother first and who would win?
I would vote Brad Meaney off if he turned up to eviction and I think that Brenden Hartmann would win it.
Player with the best work ethic and why?
Kotoni – the bloke just doesn’t stop
Three special dinner guests?
Matt Johns, Brian Fletcher & Nathan Hindmarsh
Desert Island Discs?
Ed Sheeran’s New Album – Banger!
Who at the club has the best/worst banter?
Brad Meaney for both
Best - Richard Hooper, Worst – Brad Meaney have you seen his birkenstocks? They are horrendous

Rugby Hero/Sporting Hero/Hero?
Richie McCaw – Steven Bradbury – John Snow
