Words made famous by English music hall singer Mark Sheridan way back in 1907, it speaks of the singer's love for the seaside, and his wish to return there for his summer holidays each year.
It was around that very time when the people of Manly actually found a love for being beside the seaside in winter! This was of course because they could enjoy a wonderful day down at Manly Oval where their local sportsmen and heroes provided them with an exciting spectacle as the Manly Rugby Club took to the field.
Fast forward to 2017 and the tradition continues!
It is truly my honour to welcome you to another year of Manly Marlins Rugby, which promises to be as exciting, passionate and memorable as it was way back then in 1907. Having hung up my own boots at the end of last season, I am privileged to be at the helm this season, and am as impatient as ever for that first kick of the football and the season to commence.
Our Club has had an extremely busy off-season preparing the Marlins for a successful year on and off the pitch & we can’t wait to welcome all of our faithful supporters back to the Village Green for a bumper year of Marlins Rugby.
We are very excited to see how the boys perform under highly credentialed Head Coach, Brian ‘Billy’ Melrose - there has been a noticeable lift in intensity and professionalism at training, and the preseason strength and conditioning program seems to be paying off. Billy is eager to establish a brand of Rugby the community can be proud of and the players can’t wait to show their wares come our first home game V Sydney University on the 8th April.
The Marlins have been well supported again this year from a range of diverse sponsors and partners, no more so than Mounties Group who have committed to a further 3 year term as Major Sponsors.
We are truly blessed to have the biggest and most passionate fan base in the Sydney Premiership, and its true to say that the club's success this season and beyond will be as a result of our supporters at Village Green, just as it was way back in the early 1900's.
So buy your season tickets and join us for all nine home games - your club needs you this season!
Finally....please feel free to come to the Manly Bowling Club next Sunday 26th March at 3-5pm, where we will be having an informal season launch. We will be announcing our 1st Grade team and hearing from our coach, Brian Melrose. All are welcome!
